Royal Caribbean Cruise liner, 2019

Swell is a kinetic sculptural artwork installed on a cruise ship, containing 60 illuminated arcs, suspended from the ceiling, reflecting the beauty of the water surrounding the ship.

My Roles: Building and testing, servicing after completion

• Assembled first full build test

• Soldering of PCBs and small components

• Painting of all pieces

• Testing of all LEDs and components before they are mounted to artwork

• Testing and recording throughout building and all test stages

• Prepared artwork for transport

• Assembled artwork on site over 5 days

• Use of hoists, ladders and scaffold tower

• Serviced artwork as a 2 person team a few months after installation

• Wrote documentation for servicing by ship staff after COVID break

• Prepared spares, install tools and fixings for ship staff
